So, we finally heard back from the IRS. Unsurprisingly, they are asking for some more info... so, while we're putting that together for them to review, we are enjoying the comforting thought that at least we weren't rejected outright. Hopefully we have a final decision here in a couple of few. (Then we can really do some fun stuff)

Today we are ready to announce our next big project; a podcast companion to the BeauMist Magazine.

So THAT's what it was for

The podcast will feature much of the same content from future issues of the magazine but will go deeper in depth with the artists, sometimes bringing in other media that we just can't capture on the printed page. The cast will also give you a seek peek at whatever it is we are working on for upcoming issues. We haven't hammered out an exact schedule, so releases could be a little erratic for a while here, but the general idea is:
*1 month of previews of magazine content before the release of a new issue
*1 month of a previews of companion content when the issue is released
*1 month with the full content

As an added bonus, future issues of the magazine will have a code (or something) in them that you can use to unlock the full versions of the content a month before they would release in the regular schedule.

We've submitted the cast to iTunes and Zune for review, but have no idea how quickly that process can be finished. So, when we have more news, we'll let you know. For now, you can check out the first episode Here, or you can manually add the RSS feed to your software of choice using this address (http://www.beautifulmistakes.com/BeauMist_PCFeed.rss) Happy listening!

For those of you near the Dallas/Plano area (as we are), we are having a small sort of event today.

Earlier this morning, I dropped off a handful of copies of the first issue of the magazine at three nearby libraries. The first few people to visit the locations can pick a one up for free. The others can take some time to enjoy some unique offerings at each library.

The locations are:
Frisco Public Library

Located inside the Frisco City Hall building, this is a really nice library with a couple levels of books, quiet study rooms, and an impressive dvd collection. Outside you can also enjoy some public art displays. Hopefully, the magazine will be added to their collection soon.

Haggard Library

A pretty large location near the middle of Plano. It has some nice architecture and a rather large selection.

Schimelpfenig Library

Kind of hard to pronounce, but quite a nice location. If you get tired of books, you can play Kinect or Wii during the day or go for a bike / run on the nearby Chisholm Trail

Wow. As they say, time does seem to fly. Really hard to believe that it's been a whole year since Beautiful Mistakes officially became a Not-for-profit organization.
Looking at the year in review, I certainly wish we could have done more than just post (presumably) obnoxious updates in your news feeds; but with no money to speak of and little extra time to devote thanks to the newest Rowe it is reasonably hard to do more.
Anyway, our 2nd year is definitely shaping up to be much more interesting; we finally got our hands on some funds this week so, at long last, we are going to put out our first issue of the magazine (hopefully by the end of this month). The hard copy version will be available first, followed by an e-book format afterwards. More details as to where you can obtain those later.
We will also be pursuing our tax-exemption status, because those deductions are just so damn satisfying when April rolls around.
Some other ideas are kicking around, but are not quite ready to be revealed. Just be assured that they would be completely awesome if they ever get further than the planning stage.
So, thank you for not un-subscribing during a year of infrequent updates. We will do better to entertain you this time around.

Spent a little time today cleaning up some script that was lazing around in the background.... nothing major; you will probably not notice. In spite of that, I seem to have a renewed energy for this project; I won't go into detail as that energy could disappear just as quickly tomorrow. ANYWAY, I happened across some images I had captured from our whiteboard. A posting long overdue; as too many of my postings are... Though BeautifulMistakes seems to have fallen off the map, it has not removed itself from my mental real estate. Trust that I have not given up on the idea; instead its bandwidth has been redirected to growing concerns. Namely, to this growing concern. Lately, many a day is spent putting together cribs and strollers, watching sonograms, or attending child birth classes. Many a night my thoughts have turned to the malnourished magazine; my body confined to non-action by conflicting schedules, lack of energy and sleeplessness. All this to say - though it is likely obvious already - I am hitting pause on BeautifulMistakes until next year. Our young son is predicted to join us in February. Hard to tell whether paternity leave will be a boon of time to dedicate to the creative or animation further suspended here. Regardless, I will strive to leave a few things whenever I can. Happy New Year

Did a little tweaking on the 'gallery' in preparation for future additions; If you're clever, you can probably guess what those additions might be. Also if you're not clever. I also learned that if you're going to use any kind of scripting on your webpage, you should make sure your data is clean, and that it works w/ said scripting. That way you won't have to waste a few hours making minor updates to every freaking picture on your page. More later

Today is a great day. Finally, something I've always wanted to do with this site is done. We now feature independant music. Well, just the one band... but they're good ones. Pardon the Weather added their demo album to the annals of the Mistakes. We were having drinks with one of the band members (Josh) tonight and I was inspired to post their music instead of being lazy (like usual). I suppose I should tell about my new toy: my Wacom tablet. To give you an example of what it lets me do, check out this picture that I made with it. I put up a lot of new notebook pix from none other than ME. I have a good feeling I'll spend some time in the near future redesigning the art section for easier viewing...
